About Ellerbe Weather Station

November 1, 2008, Ellerbe Weather Station began operation with a Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station. The outdoor Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS) consists of a solar powered suite of sensors that measure temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and wind direction. The data is collected every 5 seconds. This site and its data is collected using Weather Display Software.

ISS Upgrade

June 24, 2015, the ISS was upgraded by adding a Daytime Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield Kit that includes fan, solar panel, additional radiation shield plates. The solar-powered fan runs during the day and reduces the effects of daytime radiation.

September 4, 2021, the ISS was upgraded with a new single spoon tipping bucket rain collector. A new aeroCone w/bird spikes and debris screen with Davis logo and a Davis 6410 ? Anemometer. This all will help improve accuracy.

About Shreveport

Shreveport was named after Capt. Henry Miller Shreve, a boat captain who cleared a log jam that clogged up the Red River for 165 miles. Shreve?s work in the 1830s opened the way for trade. The city was incorporated in 1839. Agriculture gave the area its start, with lumber and manufacturing following as key industries. Oil sparked growth in the early 1900s, giving way to a booming tourism industry in the latter part of that century through today.

The Shreveport-Bossier City area is home to Barksdale AFB which is home to the B-52 Bomber. The city continues to attract international attention for conferences, events, and visitors looking to indulge in a bit of Southern style.
